Legs

Legs: Begin with Colour A (Black) and 2.5mm hook

Crocheted in a continuous round

Round 1: MR 8 SC. 8sts

Round 2: (Inc, 3 SC) x 2.10sts

Round 3: (Inc, 3 SC), (Inc x 3), (2 SC, Inc). 15sts

Round 4: (Inc x 2), 4SC, (Inc x 3), 4 SC, (Inc x 2). 22sts

Change to colour B (Burnt Orange)

 

Round 5: BLO 22 SC. 22sts

Round 6: 22 SC. 22sts

Round 7: 7 SC, (Dec x 4), 7 SC. 18sts

Round 8: 6 SC, (Dec x 3), 6 SC. 15sts

Rounds 9-14: SC around (6 rounds). 15sts

Change to Colour C (Grey)

Round 15: BLO 15 SC. 15sts

Rounds 16-26: 15 SC around (11 rounds).15sts

Fasten off. Mark the 7th Stitch of round 26. 

Repeat Round 1- 26 for the 2nd Leg, do not fasten off.

With the 2nd leg still attached to the hook, Ch 3 then join leg 2 to leg 1 with a SC where you marked.

 

Body 

 Body: Continue with Colour C (Grey)

Crocheted in a continuous round

Round 1: 14 SC around leg 1, 3 SC on the chain, 15 SC around leg 2 and 3SC on the other side of the chain. Mark the start of the next round. 36sts

Round 2: 11 SC, (Inc x 2), 7 SC, (Inc x 2), 14 SC. 40sts

Rounds 3-6: 40 SC around (4 rounds). 40sts

Round 7: 17 SC, 3 Tog, 20 SC. 38sts

Round 8: 38 SC around. 38sts

Round 9: 7 SC, Dec, 17 SC, Dec, 10 SC. 36sts

Round 10: 10 SC, change to colour E (flesh tone), 26 SC. 36sts

Legs should be fully stuffed at this point.

Do not cut the yarn, we will now begin the head. At this point ensure the body is fully stuffed. The neck should be stuffed firmly to support the weight of the head.

Head

Make 6 SC. Mark just after the last stitch, this will be the beginning of the rounds for the head.

Round 1: Inc x 12. 24sts

Round 2: (3 SC, Inc) x 6. 30sts

Rounds 5-13: 42 SC around (9 rounds). 42sts

Position eyes between Round 10 and 11. (6 stitches apart).

Change to colour D (white)

Round 14: BLO 10 SC. 10sts

Rounds 15 – 22: 10 SC around (8 rounds). 10sts

Stuff the lower half of the arm lightly.

SC the opening of the arm closed with 5 SC. f/o leaving a long tail to attach the arm to the body. 5sts

Sew arms on either side of body between rounds 23 and 24.

 

Finishing Touches

Frill details on sleeves - Colour D (white)

Attach yarn to unworked front loop of round 14 of the arms. (Inc x 10). Slst to first stitch of round, fasten off and weave in yarn ends. 20sts

Rims on boots – Colour B (Burnt Orange)

Attach yarn to unworked front loops of round 15 of the legs 15 SC around. Slst to first stitch of round, fasten off and weave in yarn end. 15sts

Pinafore Dress

Begin with Colour F (Aubergine) and 3mm hook

Crocheted in a continuous round

Round 1: Ch 45. 45sts

Round 2: With a Hdc, join the end of the chain to the beginning of the chain to form a loop. (you will now continue the rest in a continuous round)

44 Hdc around the circle. 45sts

Rounds 3-9: 45 Hdc around (7 rounds). 45sts

Round 10: (7 Hdc, dec) x 5. 40sts

Round 11: (6 Hdc, dec) x 5. 35sts

Round 12: 35 Hdc around. f/o. 35sts

On round 12, Mark stitches 1, 8, 16 and 28.

Stitches 16 & 28 are the start and end of the front panel and Stitches 1& 8 are where you will join the pinafore straps. Cut yarn and weave in ends. 35sts. 

Change to hook 2.5mm – this part of the pattern is crocheted in rows.

Round 13: Attach yarn to Stitch 16 (A), and make 13 Hdc (the last SC should be at the marked stitch 28 (B)

Ch2 and turn your work – this is your turning chain and not counted in the total number of stitches. 13sts

Round 14: Dec, 9 Hdc, Dec. Ch2 and turn 11sts

Round 15: 11 Hdc. Ch2 and turn 11sts

Round 16: Dec, 7 Hdc, Dec. Ch1  9sts

Do not cut the yarn, now we will crochet the Pinafore Straps

Round 17:

Ch 18, and from 2nd hook from chain crochet 17 SC across the back of the chain.

Skip one stitch and join to the next stitch on the front panel with a SC.

6 SC across (you should now have 2 stitches left on the front panel. Now we start the second strap.

Ch 18 and from 2nd hook from chain and crochet 17 SC across the back of the chain.

Skip one stitch and Slst to the last stitch of the front panel. Cut yarn.

 

The straps are now complete

With a couple of stitches attach the end of the pinafore straps to stitches 1 & 8 on round 12 marked previously. Weave in all the ends.

Hair 

Worked in Colour I (Dark brown) and hook 3mm 

Crocheted in a continuous round

Round 1: MR 6 SC 6sts

Round 2: Inc x 6 12sts

Round 3: (SC, Inc) x 6 18sts

Round 4: (SC, Inc, SC) x 6 24sts

Round 5: (3 SC, Inc) x 6 30sts

Round 6: (2 SC, Inc, 2 SC) x 6 36sts

Round 7: (5 SC, Inc) x 6 42sts

Rounds 8 - 12: 42 SC around (5 rounds) 42sts

Round 13: from the last SC of round 12, Ch 21 f/o and cut yarn.

Round 14: Attach yarn to next outward stitch (see arrow on picture), Ch 21 f/o and cut yarn.

Repeat on next stitch. You should now have 3 long chains next to each other.

Round 15: Count 7 stitched away from the chain on round 13. And repeat round 14,  3  times.

Attaching hair to head:

Stitch the hair to the head using same colour yarn as the hair.

Adding the fringe and texture to the hair (Optional)

For the fringe, Loop stitches from between round 8 and 9 of the head to 5 stitches into the hair continue until the fringe is complete. See picture, now using the same method, add stitches of hair to first the outer rim of the hair then fill in the inner parts.  The stitches for the outer rim should go through the head and the hair. The stitches in the inner parts only need to go through the hair.

Your stitches don’t have to be perfectly aligned; the aim is to add texture.

Braid the three chains on both sides of the hair and ties the ends with a red piece of yarn.

 

Raincoat

Worked in Colour G (yellow) and hook 3mm

This is worked in rows. From rounds 3-21, Ch 2 at the end of each row, these are turning chains and not counted in the total number of stitches

Round 1: Ch 48. 48sts

Round 2:  from the second chain from the hook, 47 Hdc. 47sts

Rounds 3 – 12 : 47 Hdc (10 rounds). 47sts

Round 13: 10 Hdc, Dec, 23 Hdc, Dec, 10 Hdc. 45sts

Round 14: Dec, 7 Hdc, Dec, 11 Hdc, Dec,10 Hdc, Dec, 7 Hdc, Dec. 40sts

Round 15: 40 Hdc around. 40sts

Round 16: Dec, 6 Hdc, Dec, 9 Hdc, Dec, 9 Hdc, Dec, 6 Hdc, Dec. 35sts

Rounds 17 - 19: 35 Hdc around (3 rows). 35sts

Round 23:  Continuing from the above, 21 Hdc along the edge A, f/o  and weave in the ends. Repeat the same on edge B. 21sts

 

Sleeves

Crocheted in continuous rounds

Round 1: With the base of the jacket facing towards you, join yarn colour to the 8th stitch of round 21 (see pink stitch marker in picture) 8 Hdc into the 8 skipped stitches, then 10 hdc into the base of the 10 Ch. 18sts

Rounds 2-12: 18 Hdc around (11 rounds). 18sts

Round 13: St 18 stitches around. F/o and weave in yarn tail. 18sts

Repeat round 1-13 for the 2nd sleeve

With your yarn ends, Stitch closed any holes between the sleeve and the body of the raincoat.

 

Collar

This is worked in rows, turning chains are not counted

Round 1: Start 3 stitches from the end of row 21 (not counting the edge stitches from round 22 and 23.) 27 HDC. ch1 turn. 27sts

Round 2: (7 Hdc, Dec) x 3 .ch1 turn. 24sts

Between round 11-12 of the head, make a couple of horizontal stitches 2 stitches wide (Picture 1 and 2).

Now on those stitches wrap the yarn around until all the stitches are covered (picture 3).

 

Mouth – use  Yarn H – Red

Between round 14-15 of the head, make a couple of horizontal stitches 3 stitches wide (Picture 3).

 

Eyes – Black and white embroidery floss (optional)

Using picture 3 as guide add whites of eyes and eyelashes).

 

 

 

Wagon

Worked in Colour H (Red) and Hook 3mm

Crocheted in rows.

To give structure to the Wagon, we will be doubling up the yarn, so using two strings of yarn instead of 1

Base of Wagon

Round 1: Ch 13. 13sts

Round 2: from the second chain from the hook, 12 SC. Ch1 turn. 12sts

Rounds 3-16: 12 SC around (14 rows). f/o and weave in ends. 12sts

Sides of the Wagon.

Also using two strings of yarn instead of 1.

 

Short sides (A and B) (make 2)

Round 1: Ch 13. 13sts

Round 2: from the second chain from the hook, 12 SC. Ch1 turn. 12sts

Round 3-4: 12 SC around (2 rows). f/o and leave long tail for sewing. 12sts

 

Long sides (C and D) (make 2)

Round 1: Ch 15. 15sts

Iron all pieces of the cart so that they lay flat.

 

Wagon Arm

Round 2: Inc x 6. f/o Using the invisible join method and leave a long tail for sewing. 12sts

 

Assembling the Wagon

Step 1

We will begin by sewing on the short sides of the cart to sides A & B of the base of the cart.

Using the FLO, and yarn colour H sew the short sides to the base see picture 1. f/o and sew in ends.

The long tails (from round 4) of the short sides of the cart should be on your Right-hand side when sewing, these will be used to join the sides together.

F/o and weave in ends

Step 2

Next sew on the short sides of the cart to sides C & D of the base of the cart.

Using yarn colour H (red) sew the front loops of the long sides of the cart to the base of the cart 

The long tails (from round 4) of the long sides of the cart should be on your Right-hand side when sewing, these will be used to join the sides together.

f/o and weave in ends

Step 3

Now we sew the corners of the sides of the cart.

Using the longtails of each side of the cart, sew the corners together.
